MLML Chapter 11

Chapter 11:
With the beautiful dress and the comb, Desiree gets more confident. Because she had never worn shoes before, wearing shoes was like a torture for her. But in order to meet and take care of Daniel, she still wears it. When she walks slowly to the hill, she touches the first man and waits. The man then opens the gate for her to pass. Then, she sees a car is reaching the hotel. On the car she sees Daniel and her father. She then runs to the car to see Daniel, but Daniel does not recognize her. Daniel is speaking French that she does not understand, then the car drives off. The gatekeeper had seen the exchange between the two young people, so he let Desiree in. Everyday Desiree spends her time with the artisan. Each evening when gatekeepers and artisans are gone, the land becomes Desiree's playground. She can finally take off her shoes and play on the land. She bathes in the swimming pool; she eats the fruits and the leavings of guests' dinners; she sleeps in the alcoves chiseled at the rocky base of the hotel, the one directly beneath the rooms of Daniel Beauxhomme. She never tries to go into the hotel. She wants to but she fears being caught and banishes from the grounds and losing forever her chance to save Daniel. One night she suddenly wakes up, because she hears the footsteps that are coming closer. She then sees a man reaching the pool and disappears. When she moves to the spot, she hears a groan. She then searches until she senses a hulking presence: It is Daniel. She then holds her and sings song for her. Daniel says that he is scared, and he cannot stand those other hands reaching out to him. And Desiree says to him that she will keep him safe. Its glad that she can hold and help Daniel, but it is also sad that Daniel does not know who she is. Then Desiree helps him to his bed; Daniel holds on her. She lies besides him, and holds him.
