MLML Chapter 8-10

Chapter 8:
Desiree ran away from the ceremony/ritual, and started her journey to Daniel's house. It was a really long journey. The first day she even dreamed about the Gods. She was afraid of them, but her only thought was that Daniel needs her. When she reached to a vendor and asked about the direction, they were laughing at her. They thought that Desiree was ignorant. However, this did not stop Desiree; she continued her journey. Then she arrived at a town. In the town, she asked a woman whether she knew the way to Monsieur Beauxhomme's house. Again, the woman laughed at her about her ignorance. It was ridiculous for the woman that a rich needs a peasant girl. This discouraged Desiree, and she abandoned all thought of sleep. But later her strength failed. In the morning she awoke, she was hungry. She walked over to a woman, and said to her that she was hungry. Probably that woman was sent by the Gods or the woman was touched, she gave her many pieces of fried pork and plantains. When Desiree got the food, she just ate all of them and that gave her the strength. The next few days she met another woman. At this time she was also hungry. Fortunately, this woman knew who M. Beauxhomme was, and told her that it would take no more than a day or so- three at the most to get there. At the end, the woman even gave Desiree a bread. By this journey, Desiree learned to exercise patience.

Chapter 9:
On the seventh day, she was there. After taking a nap under a tree, she awoke and met a girl who was an orphan just like her. The young girl told her that her families were taken away by the storms. Probably Desiree saw the shadow of her youth from the little girl, she taught her how to make a wishing cage. They need to first catch a butterfly, make a wish, and let it go. Even though the little girl missed one, at last she still caught one. After the little girl made a wish, Desiree showed her the road to find Tonton Julian and Mama Euralie; she also taught her to exercise patience so that she could get some foods from the vendor. When the little girl arrived at the old hut, one of Desiree's wishes would be granted too. She knew that her leaving had caused them unhappiness, and she hoped that the little girl could be their new Desiree.

Chapter 10:
When the peasant girl arrived at the city. She was shocked by the surrounding. She was scared of the music, laughter, and people around her. The unnamed anxiety blinded her and she tripped and fell facedown. The next day she went to the hotel with other vendors. Then she was amazed by that gorgeous hotels. But when she tried to go through the gate, the guards stopped her. The guard named Lucifus was rude to her. He called her as peasant pig, and threw her outside the gate. People there even jeered at her because she did not even have a pair of shoes. Then she quickly ran away and being desperate for a while. But then, she started to think again, where can she get shoes? Then, probably the Gods started to help her, her eye fell on a corosol on the branch of a tree overhead. She took that corosol and tried to sell it to the shoes vendor. The vendor thought a corosol was not enough for exchanging a pair of shoes, but the woman selling dresses at the next stall was attracted by the fruit. Then they started to talk and Desiree talked about how she got here and how she was treated by the guard. She also told the woman that she was the one who saved Daniel and she thought that the Gods Agwe and Erzulie asked her to do so; this was her fate. The woman was touched by Desiree's story, and asked the shoe vendor to give her a pair of shoes, and the woman let Desiree to choose a dress from her stall. The woman even send a comb to Desiree as a gift. She encouraged Desiree but at the same time warned her that: "all gates are difficult to enter-even the gates of heaven."
