MLML Chapter 6-7

Chapter 6:
After the storm, everything is new. Peasants work with renewed vigor, clearing dead branches from their plots and rebuilding homes. While everyone is working, Desiree only has one thought in her mind: I must leave. She wants to find Daniel, the one who she takes care for days. When she asks Tonton Julian about the road to the home of Monsieur Beauxhomme,  Tonton Julian tells her that it is a long journey. So then she goes to find M. Bienconnu, the one who has lived long enough to see time chase time over and over again. Then, M. Bienconnu tells her about the origin of the family of Beauxhomme. They are the colonizers from the French. Even though the old man tells her that she cannot get the love from Daniel("History has cast our fate in stone"), she still decides to find Daniel. When she goes back home and tells Tonton Julian about this, Tonton Julian realizes that the sixteen-year-old girl starts to have the feelings of love. Later on, Mama Euralie comes back and strongly disagrees with Desiree's leaving. And Mama Euralie says they should consult gods in order to solve this problem.

Chapter 7:
Mama Euralie brings Desiree to talk with gods. She grabs Desiree tightly so that she does not lose her. During the ceremony, Desiree first sees her parents. Her parents are glad that she is still alive. Then the goddess Erzulie (love) comes. She is the one who supports Desiree. (love between Mama Euralie and Desiree). Then, the god Agwe appears. He is mad that Erzulie disrupts his plan. From the gods' conversation, they know that Agwe takes away the life of Desiree's parents. Not only of that, he wants to punish all the people since they are greedy. He does not think that the islander can truly love each other. When Agwe says that he shall destroy all of the people, Papa Ge appears. He claims that he is here to make certain that vows given in trust be kept in trust. Then, Agwe shouts and leaves the body. Then, Papa Ge turns and gazes at Desiree. Desiree feels scared. She screams and snatches her hand away from Mama Euralie, and runs away.
