1) Stage novel as play, how to costume Desiree to show member of village but also an outsider/dreamer.
2) Would her costumes connect to other characters. Such as Gods, the Rich, Mama?
1. The skin color of Desiree should be different compared with the peasants in the village. Peasants are Indigenous people, and the origin of Desiree is from a horde. The color difference can show that she is an outsider. Also Desiree could have really long hairs, while others' are shorter. Because peasants need to work and farm, keeping long hair will bother their work. But Desiree is a girl who desires to leave the village. If she is the only one who keeps the long hair it shows that she is different with normal peasants. Even though her dress has patches, Desiree's dress can be cleaner compared with other peasants. Everyday she can wear different dresses and dress much modernly to show the love of beauty and yearn for modern life. The color of her dress could be bright-colored to show that it is different with the normal peasants' costume.
2. Costumes show that Desiree dresses more like a rich compared with the peasants. She is looking for a chance to leave the village and go to the modern city, so dress like a rich will help her to distinguish herself from villagers. The patches on the costumes can show a close relationship with her mom, since her mom could be the one who sew the dress for her. The bright-colored of the dress could refer to the Gods. Desiree could wear something that is blue to show the relationship between her and Agwe; The flowers on her costumes can also show the relationship between her and Asaka.
