Scene proposal for TGM
As a group, we chose ending scene and ending monologue as our scene. Our scenes mainly described the fight between Laura and Tom. It starts from the leaving of Jim. After Amanda found out that Jim had a wife, she got mad at Tom. And it leads to the leaving of Tom. It showed the family struggle in this family; and the ending monologue showed Tom's feeling towards his family. It interests me because it discusses the struggle in a family, so that by acting out this ending scene, it could give me a better understanding at the end, like why did Tom leave the family? What did he feel after he left the house. In the play, I will play the role of Tom. Because concerning about the gender, two other group members are female, they probably will feel uncomfortable or unnatural to act in a different gender role. Also, I think the character of Tom can improve my acting skill. Because in our play, Tom must be quarrelling with Amanda; I think by acting and practicing about this, my voice can get louder and maybe I wont feel so nervous. Our scene is the ending of the play. It shows the family struggle in the play, also the results of the family struggle, which leads to the Tom's leaving. It also shows how did Tom feel when he left the house. He always thought about his sister Laura; probably because he felt guilty because of the leaving. I hope to explore the emotion of the characters. For example, when Tom is leaving the family, what kinds of emotion did he have at that time? Also, what should characters do in order to show the feeling they get to the audience? I think by using hand gestures, characters can somehow help audience to understand the play.
