MLML first two chapters

Chap 1:
Setting is on an island named Jewel of the Antilles. There are two sides on this island - the poor and the rich. While the rich can use their high-advanced techniques or wealthy to "protect" the town, the poor can only pray to the Gods. Two main Gods are Asaka, goddess of earth, of plants, of all growing things, and Agwe, god of the sea, of water.
Characters are Ti Moune (Desiree Dieu-Donne), a little girl who desires to meet the outside world; her guardians Tonton Julian and Mama Euralie.
In chapter one it gives a basic background of the island, the people, and the situation. Ti Moune and her guardians are all peasants, the poor. Right now they are suffering in a drought. Tonton Julian thinks that Gods are punishing them because men cutting the trees and selling them for gain. He thinks that Gods are punishing them because of the greed. The most important thing for them is to pray to the Gods and beg for rain. While they are baffled, Ti Moune thinks about the car, that shining car M. Galimar own. She thinks that one day she will leave this place and go to the outside world.
Chap 2:
When everybody go to the ceremony for rest, Ti Moune go to the brook where peasants are forbidden. Then she lies in the brook and thinks about her life. When she was four, her mom abandoned her and put her on a mango tree. Later on Tonton Julian and Mama Euralie found her and treated her as their own child. Even though Ti Moune loves her guardian, she still wants to go and see the outside world. When she gets up and puts on her dress, the dress rips. Then she saw a giant star had fallen and heard the car crashed. This gives a foreshadowing of the story, but also shows that her will is huge, so that her peasant dress does not fit her.
